4 Unconventional Drink Ideas for a Holiday Cocktail Party

The holidays are a wonderful time to host cocktail parties, but it seems like everyone tends to stick within the realm of tradition, almost to the point of boredom. As soon as Thanksgiving passes and the Christmas decorations come out, the season is upon you with all the familiar smells and tastes of pumpkin pie, eggnog, pine, and cinnamon. The colors of red and green team up with the multi-colored lighting to create a festive mood, so it’s no wonder that cocktail parties are so popular and enjoyable during this time of year. However, if you want to go beyond the bounds of tradition and spice things up a bit while still staying within the holiday theme, here are several out-of-the-box drink ideas to try at an upcoming holiday cocktail party:

  • 1. Lemon Drop

The Lemon Drop is a very simple yet pleasing drink that uses Absolut Vodka, Triple Sec, and Lemon juice to create a sour, citrusy punch. It’s a simple recipe – 1 part vodka to 2/3 part lemon juice and 1/3 part Triple Sec. Basically you throw those three ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes, shake it around, and then strain the mix into a shot glass. Adding sugar to the glass rim and using a chilled glass are optional but recommended additions.

  • 2. White Cosmopolitan

The White Cosmopolitan is also citrusy, but in a more fruity way, and the recipe is a bit more complicated than the simple Lemon Drop. The 5 ingredients are: 1 and 1/3 part Absolut Citron vodka, 1/3 part lime juice, ½ part triple sec, 2/3 part white cranberry juice, and 1 orange twist.  Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice cubes and strain into a cold cocktail glass. Finally, garnish the glass with an orange slice.

  • 3. Pumpkin Pie Martini

Now we’re getting into something with a traditional flavor — the Pumpkin Pie Martini, but it’s still unconventional because many people haven’t tried it. The ingredients are: 1 and 2/3 parts Absolut Vanilla Vodka, 1 part milk, 1 teaspoon of superfine sugar, a dash of cinnamon syrup, and a dash of pumpkin smash. Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice cubes, then strain into a cocktail glass after straining. No garnishments are necessary but a chilled glass is preferable.

  • 4. Absolut Mistletoe

Finally, perhaps the highlight of the holiday cocktail party will be the Absolut Mistletoe, which combines several Christmas-themed flavors for an authentically impressive drink. The 6 ingredients are: 1 and ½ parts Vodka, 3 parts cranberry juice, 1/3 part lime juice, lemon lime soda to taste, 1 mint leaf sprig, and 1 red currant sprig. Fill up a rocks glass with the vodka, cranberry juice, and lime juice portions, then top up the glass with lime soda and garnish with mint leaf and red currant sprigs.
