There’s literally nothing worse than stepping out of a shower or bath and into a scratchy towel. Believe it or not, there is a right way to wash your bath towels, and it might not be what you expect. After every wash and dry they should come out of the dryer feeling soft and fluffy like never before.
There are a few ways you can get your towels back to their state of softness. Try these tips and see if your bath towels feel like something you’d be happy to wrap yourself in.
If your towels aren’t new, but somehow over time they have become rough and uncomfortable, start with white vinegar.
White vinegar is a natural disinfectant and can deodorise your towels and clean your washing machine. It will keep your towels soft without compromising their absorbency. Scratchy towels can be the result of limited absorbency as well as chemical build-up.
If you’re all out of white vinegar or fancy trying other techniques, here are a few more things you can try:
Don’t mix your loads. Don’t wash your towels with other items. Other items call for special attention such as fabric softener or dryer sheets and these only take away the softness of your towels.
Don’t overload your washer. You want to be careful with how many towels you wash in one load. It’s important that water is able to fully penetrate the towels to remove soap scum, oils and other build-up.
Don’t use fabric softener. While it might soften your clothes and sheets, it should be avoided when washing towels. Fabric softener has chemicals that cause build-up in the fibres and they stop towels from absorbing water.
Don’t try your towels on high heat.
Stay away from dryer sheets. These also contain chemicals that coat towels and deflect water.
Luxuriously soft towels are the perfect way to end your night or start your morning. Follow these tips to keep your bath towels absorbent, soft and fluffy – and there’s literally nothing nicer than that.
